Don Carrick, photographer (aka dr. pixel) The Man, The Myth, The Man
I believe every person deserves to feel good about how they look. I believe there is beauty in every person.
While the technique and style of a photograph are important its primary power is in its ability to create an emotional connection with the viewer. Pretty amazing how that happens, right? And it happens in that nanosecond when your picture is taken, that instant when your expression is authentic and you are in the moment; the camera sees it. You can spot a fake smile a mile away, in photos as well as in life. Humans are hard-wired to see that stuff. And when we do, we discount it…zero, zip, nada emotional reaction to those fakers. Creating a connection with the people I photograph is one of the BEST parts of my work. It’s spectacularly fun and creates the best results for my clients.
I cut my teeth in the arts and design industry on the other side of the camera as a Cartographer, Graphic Designer, and Art Director at the National Geographic Society; I also did a stint as a Marketing Manager for Baldwin Hardware Corp. and Arrow International, a medical device manufacturer. Now I am a corporate photographer with my own studio and I am happier than I have ever been!
I can’t wait to share our stories and make a connection. When we are finished working together, your photograph will reflect you and exactly what you want to say to the world. Let’s do this thing!

“Don did headshots for my upcoming debut book. I was nervous, but he is both professional and fun at the same time. Don put me at ease and did not just take standard “posed” photos. He took the time to learn about my personality so he could capture it in the photos. I am very pleased with the final product.“
